Minutes, Hollis Conservation Commission, 21 June, 2018

Members present: John Mattor, Joanne Toone and Martha Turner.

  1. There were no Minutes to approve since the last meeting in May was a working meeting at Indian Cellar.

  2. Working meeting in May was productive. A few trails were identified, as needing signs or ribbons and some need to be cleared out a little more due to bushes growing over the trails.

  3. John mentioned that the bike rack was installed yesterday. He had help from a few cyclists who were at Indian Cellar so took only 30 minutes to install.

  4. Joanne and John shared that they walked Googins Woods the previous week and identified a list of tail work needed. There were many branches and tree limbs across the trails that will need a chain saw to remove. A list of new or replacement signs was made. It was proposed that there would be another working meeting in July (7/19), this time at Googins Wood.

  5. Once Googins Wood is in tip-top condition we will reach out to Patrick Bonsant at Saco River Community TV requesting help to produce a documentary similar to the one produced at Indian Cellar. Joanne said she would reach out to Patrick once Googins is ready for filming. John mentioned that he would reach out to Tracy Wilson to see if the girl scouts would be willing to assist in getting Googins ready for filming.

  6. There was no update on the Tea-House.There is an issue with parking for the lot. It has none! The owners would need to purchase land from the town to make parking/driveway but they have not approached the town as far as we know.

  7. John wrote a price about Indian for Fred Snow from MEACC. A shortened version was included in the MEACC newsletter that went out today. Fred plans to use more of the piece as a story to be highlighted on the MEACC website. John mentioned that he would contact the town to get a check for the Hollis Conservation Commission MEACC dues.

  8. John recently installed a new header in the kiosk at Indian Cellar.

  9. We discussed changes at the Town Office. Dave McCubrey is the new addition to the Select Board, leaving one Selectperson position vacant. A new CEO has been hired. A female named Tammy – unsure of last name. Paul remains Deputy CEO.

  10. A reminder that the Hollis Pirate Fest is on August 11 and the HCC will host an information table there. Joanne has an awning (in case of inclement weather), John will bring table. All members are encouraged to volunteer time at the information table if they are available and can contact John to sign up.

  11. Meeting adjourned to view new bike rack at Indian Cellar.

Minutes respectfully submitted by Joanne Toone
