Minutes, Hollis Conservation Commission (HCC), 17 October, 2019

Members present: John Mattor, Chris Jones, Joanne Toone, and Amy Farwell.

There was some discussion about the roadside clean up to take place on Saturday October 19. Meet at Gas Station near Deer Pond at 9 am. Chris will bring gloves. John will have truck so that the trash can be transported to Hollis Town dumpsters.

John wants to reach out to Mike Mercier to help deal with wet spot at Indian Cellar. Mike put the stairs in at Indian Cellar. Catherine will have contact information.

John mentioned his attendance at Board meeting for MEACC. There are new laws coming from Augusta about Conservation Commissions and the Conservation Commissions’ Bylaws will be changing. John will arrange with the town to send in the $150.00 check for dues to renew HCC membership of the MEACC.

John mentioned deer hunting with firearms starts November 2 and ends November 30. No hunting on Sundays. Chris brought up the question of why hunting would be allowed on Hollis public walking trails? There are some restrictions around Indian Cellar having to be available to all (including hunters) as part of the funding from Land for Maine’s Future.

John shared the HCC report that will be submitted to the Town for 2018-2019.

It was decided that the November meeting will be spent brainstorming education programs for the winter e.g. snow shoeing (guided).

Minutes respectfully submitted by Joanne Toone
