Meeting Minutes

19 September 2019

Present:  John Mattor, Joanne Toone, Doris Luther, and guest Gail Neal

1. Meeting Minutes for August approved.

2.  Todd and Gail Neal, from Buxton, have been volunteering their time at Indian Cellar doing some maintenance work – cleaning up trails and moving downed trees.  Gail walked the trails today and thinks new blazes are needed.  On Trail 7, there is a hemlock near the point hanging over the trail  She said it looks unsafe and needs to be dealt with.  Discussion ensued about doing it ourselves and a decision was made to hire someone.  John will look into finding someone.

3.  Roadside cleanup in the Deer Pond area will take place on October 19 beginning at 9:00AM and will end around 10:30.  Volunteers welcome!  We will have gloves and trash bags available.  Joanne will make sure this gets posted on the Town and Conservation Commission websites.

4.  Indian Cellar trail repair needed:  John will contact Mike Mercier, who put the stairs in at IC, to work on the wet spot and remove the shrub near the kiosk.  Gail has done some digging to try to create drainage.  John believes the culvert is plugged.

5.  The Googins Woods walk on September was a success!

6.  Maine Association of Conservation Commissions (MEACC) is having their board meeting in Brunswick on Sept. 21 at 10:00AM at the Brunswick Library.  John will be attending, as he has been invited to be on their board.  They are planning to revise the Conservation Commission statutes in the near future. John will pay our MEACC dues.

7.  Items for October agenda:  John’s annual report to the town:  it was discussed and decided he will include our first trash pick up in June; on-going maintenance updates, and events like the Googins Woods walk; and that he was invited to join the Board of MEACC.  Anyone with ideas for the October agenda, please send them to John.

8.  Other:  Joanne reported that there is no agreement yet on the purchase and sale of the land for the Town Complex.

Respectfully submitted, Doris Luther
