Minutes for Select Board Televised Meeting

October 5, 2016 7:00PM

Attendees- Select Board: River Payne, Roger Hicks, Mike Seely, Sr.; Administrative Assistant: Bennet Flinner; Residents: Rita Anderson, John Sheahan, John Paul Rondeau, Bev Harris, Nancy Conway, Vera Littiefield, Harlan Huff, Lenny VanGaasbeek

1. Meeting opened by River Payne at 7:02PM

2. Old Business

a. Community Building Update: 1 stairwell has been removed ( back of building) and large 6x8 mirror on that back wall was removed. Available to first person to come pick it up. There is a small chip on one corner, but is free!

b. Community Clothing Closet Update: Scheduled to reopen on 10/11/2016 at FD on Hollis Rd.

c. Veteran's Graves: Mike Seely, Sr. is the point of contact for this issue. There is a state statute that states all towns are responsible for maintaining veteran's plots in cemeteries. There are 50 cemeteries in Hollis and he is in the process of identifying all of the veteran's plots. He is searching for volunteers to form an adhoc committee in help identifying these graves.

d. Roads Update: Snow/Ice Contracts Bids are due 10/11/16 by 4:00PM.  DOT will begin be paving 117 North soon.  Have not  yet finalized Salt and Sand purchase. To date, sand quotes received from Dayton S &G - $4.00/sq yd, Shaw Bros $5.25/sq yd, FR Carroll $5.00/sq yd. All are "pick-up" rates, not delivered.

e. Maintenance Worker Position:  Still open to receive applications and resumes until 10/18/16. Will begin interview/hiring processes on 10/19/16.

f. Vacancies: One for Budget Committee and one for Planning Board. This is a great opportunity for young people who want to learn the process and gain experience. Good resume material!

3. New Business

a. Assessor, Deb Stitson:  Mike Seely Sr. recognized the excellent work of our Tax Assessor, Deb Stitson. She recently found an error from last year's BETE that saved $54,000 for the Town. Thank you Deb, on behalf of the Select Board for all your efforts!

b. Warrant and Payroll Totals: Last week's Warrant-$636,852, This week's Warrant-$382,475; Last Week's Payroll-$10,305, This week's Payroll-$19,948.

c. Purchase Orders: #3368 to Mercier Landscaping for Conservation Commission/cobblestone between granite stairs at Salmon Falls not to exceed $2,500. #3300 to Full Court Press for Parks and Rec printing of Fall newsletter, not to exceed $735.21; #3302 to Coastal T-shirt, Inc. for Parks and Rec Soccer Team shirts, not to exceed $631.35; #3430 to Freighline and Western Star for FD/EMS for Emergency engine repairs to engine 3-hydrolic leak, not to exceed $600.00.

d. Correspondence & Thanks:

  • Rabies Vaccination Clinic will be held Saturday, December 3 from 1-3PM at the Buxton Public Works Garage. $8.00 per vaccination- CASH ONLY. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in carriers. FMI call Buxton Town Hall.
  • The Fox and Hound Cafe and Bakery opens this weekend Saturday at 5am. Will serve breakfast and lunch until 2pm.  Check their facebook page for updates! www.facebook.com/foxandhoundcafe.

4. Other Business

            a. Commissioning of the New Fire Truck - Ceremony took place at Fire Dept. New tank truck was dedicated to Frank Hanson. Roger thanked the FD on behalf of SB for a great ceremony and continued support of the town.
