  2. Old Business

a. Elections Update - Martha Huff, Town Clerk: To request an Absentee Ballot, please contact the Town Clerk via telephone or stop in during office hours to request one. Don't forget to register to vote, deadline by mail is 10/18/16. Residents can register the day of election with a state ID/license and a piece of mail reflecting current Hollis address. There are several new laws that will be on this November's ballot, including videoing at polls, recreational marijuana, signage on property, etc. Details can be found on the Maine.gov website: http://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/upcoming/  

Next Public Hearing for secret ballot articles and zoning ordinance, and General Assistance maximums on Wednesday, 10/19/16 7:00PM. 

b. Community Building Update: Update given by committee chair, John Paul Rondeau. Received Building Permit by the Fire Marshal's office. Demo will start next week. Next meeting will be Wed, 9/28/16 at 3:00PM.  He apologized for the short notice of rescheduling.

c. Community Clothing Closet Update: Updates at FD 1 should be completed in a few days and clothing closet can plan to move back in until the new building is completed. Mike has not heard from Poland Spring in regards to this for a little over a week.

d. New Town Municipal Complex: Mike reports that the board's chair John Sheahan has sent out surveys to people. Next meeting is TBD.

e. Roads Update: All requests coming in for road repairs are personally checked by Roger for preapproval before getting approval by SB. Snow and Ice contract will be ready for bids next Tuesday and Ad will be placed in Smart Shopper for 2 weeks.

f.  Budget Committee Vacancy: 1 available. Please contact SB if interested.

g. Planning Board Vacancy: 1 available. Please contact SB if interested.

h. Citizens Petition: Reviewed by town's attorney and recently sent back to SB. SB will review the attorney's findings and give to Town Clerk for next steps.

4. New Business

a. Restoration of Town Signs: SB has requested help to a few organizations to restore 10 town signs at the borders. If anyone would like to help, please contact Mike Seely, Sr.

b. Maintenance Worker: Since our maintenance man Bob retired in August, we are looking for a maintenance worker. Ad will be placed in Smart Shopper and on the town website.

c. Deputy Code Enforcement Officer: Last year's revenue for permits was $30K. This year so far is over $24K (in less than 2 months). To help alleviate the workload and have permits issued in a timely manner,  the town will soon post for a temporary deputy CEO position.

d. New Fire Tank Truck & Ceremony: Commissioning ceremony to be held at 6:30pm at the Fire Station on Plains Road. Doors will open at 6:00pm. Rita Anderson asked what will happen to the old tank truck. Roger said it will be out of commission and the town will likely sell it.

e. Warrant and Payroll Totals: Last week's warrant $40,358, Last week's payroll $9,719; This week's warrant $353,570, This week's payroll $18,857.

f. Purchase Orders: #3333 to Northeast Fire Apparatus for the FD/EMS-1 new air pack with one additional bottle; purchase not to exceed $7,200.  #3332 to Card Services for the FD/EMS- Paramedic class balance for Szostek; purchase not to exceed $4,060.

Thank you to our state representative, Don Marean, for helping the town in the process of obtaining permits to update the community building. We appreciate your help!

  • BENEFIT SPAGHETTI SUPPER sponsored by Hollis Lions Club to benefit the Community Clothing Closet will be held Saturday Sept. 24th from 4:00-6:30PM. Adults: $12, Ages 13-18/Senior Citizens: $10, Ages 6-12: $5, 5 & under eat free!  
  • FREE DISPOSAL OF PESTICIDES- The Maine Dept. of Agriculture, the Board of Pesticides Control (BPC) and the Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection offer farmers and homeowners this free annual opportunity to dispose of any obsolete, banned or unusable pesticide materials. Collection will happen in October, but the deadline to submit your list of pesticides is Sept. 23, 2016. There are four collection sites in Maine (nearest is Portland). Call the Board of Pesticides control at 207-287-2731 to register.
