MINUTES FOR TELEVISED HOLLIS SELECT BOARD MEETING 

Aug. 18, 2021, 7:00PM at the Hollis Community Building

Attendees: Select Board members - David McCubrey, John Rogala, Mary Hoffman; Select Board Office Asst Bennet Flinner; Camera Operator Ken Knudsen; Broadcasting Tech Tiffany Dean.

1.     Meeting called to order at 7:01pm by McCubrey

2.     Old Business

                  a. Town Policies - #54 Winter Sand & Salt/Sand Shed. On the motion of Hoffman and Rogala, the Select Board approved amended policy #54. Passed 3-0.

                  b. Meeting Minutes for July 7 and 21 2021: On the motion of Hoffman and McCubrey, Select Board approved minutes for July 7, 2021. Passed 3-0. On the motino of Hoffman and McCubrey, Select Board approved minutes for July 21, 2021. Passed 3-0.

                  c. Sept. 7, 2017 Warrant Article #10 follow-up re Treasurer Elect. McCubrey followed up on the inquired warrant article from the 9/17/2017 Annual Town Meeting. Article was overwhelmingly declined by the voters to make the Treasurer an appointed position.

3.     New Business

 a.   Liquor License Renewal - Salmon Falls Country Club/The River Tap and Grill.  McCubrey reports that the Code Enforcment office has not received any complaints nor has any issues with this business. On the motion of Hoffman and Rogala, Select Board approved the liquor license renewals of Salmon Falls Country Club waiving requirement for public hearing. Passed 3-0.

 b.   Public Hearing for Board of Appeals 8/24/21 at 6:30pm - Remote Participation Policy. Announced Public Hearing for the board.

 c.   Payroll and Warrant Totals: Warrant last week - $446,485, Warrant this week $57,757; Payroll last week $37,184, Payroll this week $20,649. 

 d.   Purchase Orders: #4058 to RM Property Services for excavation of vegetation and playground restoration of wood chips at Hollis Sports Complex, Not to exceed $2,800.  #3811 to Full Court Press for printing of Summer/Fall Rec Newsletter, Not to exceed $940.44.

 e.   Correspondence   

  • Planning Board Agenda for meeting scheduled on Aug. 25, 2021 at 7pm. Is posted on our website.
  • Community Day – Pirate Fest Thank You. Select Board thanks all of the volunteers, vendors and participants that attended our Community Day. It was a great success and enjoyed by all!
  • Wilkinson Foundation Thank You. Select Board thanked the foundation for their recent grant.
  • There are vacancies on our Planning Board and Finance Committee. If you are interested, please contact the Select Board at 929-2242 to request an application. 

4.     Other Business 

                 a. Chinese lanterns - Hoffman reported that the Fire Marshall's office has reported increased usage of chinese lantern, tea light candles placed inside paper lanterns that can become airborne. They are a fire hazard and we discourage use of these lanterns in our community.

                 b. Speeding on roads - Hoffman reports many complaints have come in regarding speeding cars on our roads. We encourage folks to please slow down and obey speed limits. Residents may also call the state police non-emergency line to report speeding cars as it may encourage more police presence in those areas.

                 c.  COVID mask requirement discussion – McCubrey reports that the Town won't make their own policy regarding masks. Parks and Rec will follow same protocol that MSAD 6 will establish when school opens and will create a policy if the state mandates it.

                 d.  Poland Spring - Thank you. Rogala thanked Poland Spring for the new snowblower donated to keep our iceskating pond clear and paths to and from safe and clear. Your generosity is very appreciated!

  • There is a New Town Hall Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 24th at 4:15pm
  • There is a Televised Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearing and Meeting on Tuesday, August 24th at 6:30pm.
  • There is a Televised Planning Board meeting on Wednesday, August 25th at 7:00pm.
  • There is a Conservation Commission meeting on Thursday, August 26th at 5:30pm.
  • There is a Televised Select Board meeting on Wednesday, September 1st at 7:00pm.
