MEETING MINUTES FOR TELEVISED HOLLIS SELECT BOARD MEETING

Wednesday, November 20, 2019, 7:00PM at the Hollis Community Building

Attendees:  David McCubrey, Rita Perron, John Rogala, Chief Chris Young, State Rep. Don Marean, Bennet Flinner, Beverly Harris, Ken Knudsen

1.  Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by McCubrey.

2.  Spirit of America Award Recipient - Tootsie Johnson. Select Board congratulated resident Muriel “Tootsie” Johnson for her decades of community service to our Town and her recent recognition and nomination of this award.

3.  Winter Safety Reminders - Chief Chris Young. Chief Young reminded residents to make sure generators are 15-25 feet away from your home and used with windows closed. Walkways should be 36 inches wide and cleared for emergency responders. Use sand and salt for safety. Spraying PAM on shovels is helpful for snow removal.  Sand is available to Hollis residents in the back of the Town Hall.  Inspect and/or clean your chimneys yearly and check batteries in your smoke/CO2 detectors.  If you need assistance, please contact the Fire Chief at 727-3623.

Chief Young also provided some statistics of the EMS/FD. In October there were 54 total calls, majority was for medical transport, 6 motor vehicle accidents, a few assistance calls. There was a significant increase in total calls since September (41 calls).

4. Old Business

    a. COLA Wage Increase – On the motion of Rogala and Perron, the COLA wage increase decision was tabled by the Select Board. Passed 2-0-1. McCubrey abstained.

    b. Minutes approval: On the motion of Perron/Rogala, the Select Board approved the meeting minutes for Oct. 2, 2019. Passed 3-0. On the motion of Rogala and McCubrey, the Select Board approved the meeting minutes of Oct. 16, 2019. 2-0-1. Perron abstained due to absence from meeting.

    c. Trash Contract Bids – tabled until next meeting.

5. New Business

    a. Appeals Board Variance: On the motion of Perron/Rogala, the Select Board accepted the variance approved by the Board of Appeals on November 18, 2019. Passed 3-0.

    b. Appointments - Buffy Crosby, Saco River Community TV Board. On the motion of Rogala/Perron, the Select Board appointed Marilyn “Buffy” Crosby to the SRCTV Board of Directors. Passed 3-0.

    c. Warrant and Payroll Totals: Warrant this week - $99,163, Warrant last week - $416,350, Payroll this week - $29,272, Payroll last week - $13,569

    d. Purchase Orders: #3890 to R&W Engraving for 100 service recognition coins for Hollis Fire Rescue members, paid under FD acct, not to exceed $1,245.

    e. Correspondence

Hollis Rec and Cub Scout Pack 323 will be holding a Christmas Tree Lighting celebration at the Hollis Community Building on Friday, December 6th at 5:30pm.  Come visit with Santa Claus, listen to Christmas carols while enjoying s'mores and apple cider by the warming fire. Bake sale and holiday craft items will also be available. We hope you can join us!

A reminder of the Rabies Vaccination Clinic to be held at the Buxton Public Works Garage on Saturday, December 7th from 1-3PM. $8.00 per vaccination, accepting cash only. Dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers. For more info call 929-6171.

MSAD 6 is looking to expand their Budget Advisory Committee. Their next scheduled meeting is Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 p.m. at Central Office. Please call 929-2318 for more information.

Next Wednesday, November 27th, Hollis Town Offices will be open from 9:00am to 4:00pm. We will NOT be open until 8pm next Wednesday. Offices will also be CLOSED for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday and Friday November 28th and 29th.

Town Offices will also be closed on December 24th and 25th for the Christmas Holiday.  We will reopen on December 26th.

5.   f. Policy #19 Insurance Benefits – On the motion of Perron/Rogala the Select Board approved and signed amended Policy #19 that added the CEO Administrative Coordinator to the list of insured town employees and elected officials. Passed 2-0-1. McCubrey opposed.

6.  Other Business 

     a. iPad and remote microphone for Broadcasting: On the motion of McCubrey/Rogala the Select Board approved the purchase of an iPad for Broadcasting Dept. Passed 3-0.
