MINUTES FOR TELEVISED & ZOOM SELECT BOARD MEETING – Wed, Jan. 5, 2022, 7:00PM

Attendees:  Select Board members -David McCubrey (zoom), John Rogala, Mary Hoffman; Town Clerk Martha Huff, Chief Chris Young, Select Board Office Asst Bennet Flinner, Camera Operator Ken Knudsen, Broadcasting Technician Tiffany Dean, Public: Juliana Poirier, Nicole Demarco, Trevor Emery, Joshua Waterhouse, Josh Walls, Ryan Lund, Annabell Doane, Caitlyn Young.

1.         Meeting called to order by Hoffman at 7PM.

2.         Old Business: Mowing and Landscaping bids are due January 19, 2022. Bid packet is available at town hall and on our website.

3.         New Business

            a.   ME Pers for Full-time Public Safety employees, 457 Plan for other Full-time employees.  On the motion of of Rogala and Hoffman, Select Board will put Maine PERS for full time public safety officers on the June warrant as written in Fire Dept's presentation and have legal review. Passed 3-0.  Chief Young thanked the Select Board for moving forward in support of this ballot question.  Hoffman stated that the board will look into a 457 retirement plan for all other full-time employees. 

            b.   Payroll and Warrant Totals: Warrant last week $14,628; Warrant this week $115,553; Payroll last week $38,299, Payroll this week $13,266.

            c.   Purchase Orders: #4045 to United Training Center for Advanced EMT class for Josh Waterhouse, under Hollis FD account not to exceed $1,895.

            d.   Correspondence:

  • Agenda for Jan. 6, 2022 Planning Board meeting
  • Thank you for the recent donations to our Town’s Heat Fund – Hearts of Hollis! If you are interested in contributing to the fund, you may do so by donation or using Clynk bags that can be picked up at Town Hall.
  • A reminder to sign up for the EMS Plan for 2022. Forms are available on our website or at Town Hall. Any questions please call Bennet at 929-8552 ext. 26.
  • Dog Licenses are due 12.31.2021. Please contact the Town Clerk for more information or check our website under Town Clerk.

4.         Other Business:

             a.  Road Conditions: Rogala reminds residents that they should adjust their driving with weather conditions. The Town has been using the de-icing agent mix with salt, and sand may not be used on the roads. The salt sticks to the road and melts snow/ice. Rogala states he checks the local roads during storms to assure safety of the roads.

             b.  Power outage due to auto accident: The Select Board thanked the Hollis FD and EMS for their work at the 12/23/21 auto accident scene and subsequent power outage in Hollis Center. 

             c.  Volunteers needed for Hollis Community Day tentatively planned for 08.14.22. Please contact Debbie at Parks and Rec 929-5142 if interested.

             d.  Speed Limit on Town Farm Road - Posted 10 mph. Please adhere to the limit for the school children and other pedestrian's safety.

             e.  Wanted: Centurion of the Year nominations

5.         Upcoming Committee and Board Meetings

  • There will be a Sports Complex Committee meeting on Thurs. Jan. 6th at 7pm.
  • There will be a Televised & Zoom Planning Board meeting & Public Hearing on Thurs, Jan. 6th at 7pm.
  • There will be a New Town Committee Meeting on Tues., Jan. 11th at 4:15pm.
  • There will be a Televised & Zoom Planning Board meeting on Wed., Jan. 12th at 7pm.
  • There will be a Televised & Zoom Select Board meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 19th at 7pm.
  • There will be a Conservation Commission meeting on Thurs. Jan. 20th at 5:30pm.

6.         Public Comment:  Select Board was asked if the town has funds to pay for the Community Day held every summer. Hoffman stated that they currently have $7K leftover from last year. The event costs in excess of $30,000.McCubrey stated that Buxton is holding their 250th anniversary and Hollis may be involved in that event this year in lieu of a community day.

Faith Plummer added that sizable holes were drilled in the town's fish pond, that is used for ice skating. Please be aware of this danger when using the pond.  Faith also extended her gratitude to those who helped with the Hollis Christmas Fund. 43 families were helped with year! 

7.         On the motion of Rogala and Hoffman, Select Board adjourned meeting at 7:25 pm. Passed 3-0.
