MINUTES FOR SELECT BOARD PUBLIC AND ZOOM MEETING
Wednesday- June 15, 2022 - 7:00PM at the Hollis Community Building


Attendees: Select Board members David McCubrey, John Rogala and Mary Hoffman; Bennet Flinner, Don Marean, Tiffany Dean, Ken Knudsen, Susan Kimball, Angela Mackey, Doris Luther, All States Construction Rep.


1.    Meeting called to order by McCubrey at 7PM.

2.    Presentation of 2022 Spirit of America Awards to the Library Committee members by the Select Board.

3.    Old Business

            a. Election Results – given by McCubrey. All annual town meeting items were passed and all seats unopposed won. School Budget Passed. Don Marean was re-elected to the school board.

            b. Opening of Paving Bids: McCubrey opened bids in order received by the Town.  1. Pike Industries amounts read by road listed in bid. (It was noted that Bobbi Lane was missing from bid),  2. Dayton Sand and Gravel amounts read by road listed in bid. 3. Shaw Brothers amounts read by road listed in bid, with total bid $937,078,  4. All States Construction bid total $829,773. Select Board will have to review these bids carefully to be sure whichever one is chosen meets all the requirements for the bid. We'll keep the bidders posted on the decision. 

            c.  Meeting Minutes - On the motion of Hoffman and Rogala, the Select Board unanimously approved minutes from May 18 and June 2, 2022. Passed 3-0.

4.   New Business

            a.  Snow and Ice Control Bids – due July 20, 2022. Bidding info on our website.

            b.  Payroll and Warrant Totals: Warrant last week $70,176, Warrant this week $446,579, Payroll last week $11,831, Payroll this week $35,211.

            c.  Purchase Orders:

  • #4124 to Teleflex for EX-IO Needles - 2 boxes for Hollis Fire Rescue, not to exceed $1,100.
  • #4125 to Maine Boundary Consultants for deed work found during GIS mapping project not to exceed $1,500.
  • #4126 to Half Moon Jug Band for 2 sets of live music at Hollis Community Day not to exceed $650.00.
  • #4127 to Mad Science of Maine for 1 Hour show and 1 hour of two booths for Community Day not to exceed $958.40;
  • #4108 to Ocean AVL for covered mobile stage, sound system delivery, pick up and lighting for Community Day not to exceed $5,500;
  • #4144 to Party Palooga for 4 hours of face painting and balloon twisting three people, for Community Day not to exceed $1,500;
  • #4083  to Goodyear Commercial Tire and Service for 6 new tires and alignment on primary ambulance for Hollis Fire Rescue not to exceed $2,500;
  • #4082 to IPS for annual purchase of Firefighter PPE, coats and pants for five members for Hollis Fire Rescue not to exceed $15,000;
  • #4131 to RM Earthworks for expansion of playground area and additional new equipment at the Sports Complex not to exceed $18,350;
  • #4130 to Southern Maine Paving for Paving pad at Day Farm hydrant under TIF acct not to exceed $4,400;
  • #4129 to RMDL for ground prep for Day Farm Hydrant under Tiff acct not to exceed $7,800;
  • #4096 to Civic Plus LLC for annual fee of Civic Rec Program for Parks and Rec not to exceed $2,520.

            d.  General Assistance – Please call (207) 298-0271 for help. New caseworker to begin July 1.

5. Other Business: 

  • Trash & Recycling Pick-up Reminders: Remember to break down cardboard boxes before putting on the curb. Town highly suggests using a barrel for trash bags. Please don't abuse the amount of trash left for pick up or put it out too early - animals will get into it especially if no covered barrel is used. Us and our residents enjoy this service and want to keep it going without problems.
  • Roadside Signs Reminders - some political signs have been reported stolen. Please be respectful of other people's property. A reminder that business signs not outside your business are illegal and can be taken down.
  • Vacancies on Planning Board and Finance Committee; Volunteers wanted for Community Day 08/13/22
  • Help Wanted: Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation
  • Army Band performs for Hollis at the Sports Complex on July 4th 5pm

6.   Upcoming Committee and Board Meetings

  • Conservation Commission meeting on Thursday, June 16th at 5:30pm.
  • Planning Board meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7 PM
  • There is NO meeting on Wednesday, June 29th (5th Wednesday of the month)
  • Select Board meeting on Wednesday, July 6th at 7 PM
  • Planning Board meeting on Wednesday, July 13th at 7 PM
  • Sports Complex Committee meeting on Thursday, July 14th at 7 PM.

8.    On the motion of Rogala and Hoffman, the Select Board unanimously adjourned the meeting at 7:59pm.
